The Phillips’ own top-rated bottling, the VHR Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2021 (98, $275), provides a lovely contrast. Under the hand of winemaker Françoise Peschon, the wine features its own deep well of gorgeous flavors-raspberry, boysenberry, mulberry and black currant preserves that sparkle along with hints of violet and wood spice. As with the Käännös, there’s a terrific accent of cast iron on the finish, grounding both wines in their terroir.
