2009 Spring was relatively frost-free, with rains continuing well into May, requiring heightened monitoring of vegetative growth and berry size throughout the year.

Repeated passes through each vineyard block to monitor vine health, canopy growth, and soil and vine water potential helped define the measures we used to achieve the balance that is so important to the quality of Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon.

The installation of a new irrigation well adjacent to Block 5 has allowed us to explore the use of less frequent but longer duration irrigation strategies, conducive to premium winegrape growing in deeply structured soils.
