2010 VINTAGE This was a year when our efforts in the vineyard had a profound impact on quality. The 2010 growing season was marked by a wet spring that ended a three-year period of dry conditions in the Napa Valley, delaying budbreak by two weeks.
The cool summer prompted us to thin fruit and canopies later in the season to promote maturation. High temperatures at the end of August reduced what was already a small crop. Scrupulous sorting prior to harvest and upon receipt at the winery ensured use of only our finest fruit.
Harvest began on October 18th, with our hillside Block 6 yielding 2.1 tons, 2.9 tons from our benchland Block 4, and 3.2 tons from the creekside Block 7. The year’s lengthy coolness yielded fruit of higher natural acidity and intensely dark color, resulting in a phenomenally balanced vintage.
