2011 VINTAGE Challenging growing conditions required exemplary efforts, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, to bring forward this truly remarkable vintage—a singular wine of place from our family vineyard.

Every vintage has a distinct story, and 2011’s tale is dramatic—an unusually cool growing season, punctuated by rainfall before harvest. Painstaking thinning at the end of the season enabled our VHR clusters to mature and remain free of problematic botrytis. Meticulous sorting and winemaking ensured our ability to fully extract and integrate the defining characteristics of the 2011 vintage.

Harvest began on October 15th, with our benchland Blocks 3 and 4 yielding 2.3 and 2.26 tons per acre, respectively. Hillside Block 6 provided 3.58 tons while 3.09 came from our creekside Block 7. The year’s conditions gave us fruit with vibrant natural acidity and lowered sugars, a signature dark color and site-born phenolic characteristics. The 2011 VHR Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant and revelatory expression of the Vine Hill Ranch vineyard.
