2014 Despite persistent drought conditions throughout Northern California, 2014 brought forward an exceptional growing season in the Napa Valley, continuing the exemplary standards of the celebrated 2012 and 2013 vintages.

Limited frost pressure, remarkably well-timed rainfall in March and April, and temperate conditions throughout the season resulted in little need for intervention in the vineyard. Vineyard canopies fell naturally into balance with a solid crop set. With no significant weather events at the end of the season, our fruit was able to mature over an extended period, resulting in wonderfully structured tannins, deep aromatics, and superior color development.

As for the highly anticipated redevelopment of our hillside Block 1 vineyard, we successfully propagated and grafted to Cabernet Sauvignon in the spring. This achievement was a fitting tribute to honor the passing of Bob Phillips in October 2014, who stewarded two generations of vineyard on the site and established Vine Hill Ranch as a prominent source for some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon winegrapes in the Napa Valley.
