VHR Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 Vintage
VHR 2019 In the wake of the lauded 2018 growing season, noted for its uniformity and temperate warm weather, 2019 again delivered ideal conditions for a remarkable vintage from Vine Hill Ranch. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon wine of tremendous depth and complexity.
Having received normal precipitation, within a gradually warming growing season initiated with light spring rains, 2019 provided a relatively small crop of exceptional quality. The mild temperatures of August and September allowed for extended maturation in the vineyard, resulting in a vintage of especial character and nuance. Fruit harvested from September 20 through October 7 from blocks 1, 3, 4, and 6 contribute to this wine’s exceptional site expression and character.
The 2019 VHR, Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is dark, sumptuous, and wonderfully expressive. Blackberry fruit, gravel, spice, menthol, licorice, and dried flower notes provide the vintage with myriad layers of breadth and texture, celebrating the varied nature of this marvelous vineyard. The vintage’s expansive and lush mouthfeel is framed by a seamless bond of structured fine-grain tannins, dark ripe fruit, and vibrant acidity. Beautiful and wonderfully complex, the 2019 VHR Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a signature depth and opulence, harmoniously showcasing the attributes of the individual vineyard blocks to create a wine that is balanced, persistent, textural, and distinctive to our family’s vineyard in Oakville.
An abundant 2019 harvest began on September 20, with portions of our benchland Block 3 yielding 3.8 tons per acre. Our hillside Block 1 and benchland Block 4 yielded 4.0 and 2.8 tons respectively, while our historic hillside Block 6 delivered 4.2 tons per acre to complete our harvest on October 7.
