VHR Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Vintage
VHR 2017 Sustaining a remarkable series of notable vintages, the 2017 growing season was distinguished by three exceptionally warm periods that began Labor Day weekend, which informed the vintage’s singular structure and opulent character. Although Vine Hill Ranch was thankfully not affected, having completed harvest almost two weeks prior, 2017 will forever be remembered for the devastating Tubbs Fire that touched so many.
The 2017 VHR Cabernet Sauvignon offers beautiful floral aromas of violet and lavender, with bright damson fruit, ripe blackberry, dark chocolate with a hint of cedar and tobacco. Gorgeous black cherry, currant, and cocoa powder notes are framed by structured, opulent, yet elegant expressions of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety nascent to the individual vineyard blocks contributing to the vintage. The wine’s finish is lengthy and powerful with a complexity and balance that have become signatures of the vineyard.
2017 harvest began on September 17, with our hillside Block 1 yielding 2.95 tons per acre. Our hillside Block 6 yielded 3.05 tons per acre, and benchland blocks 3 and 4 respectively delivered 3.28 and 2.36 tons per acre.
